GERMAN LONGSWORD COURSE – 16/07/2018 [OLD]

On Monday 16th of July 2018, we’ll start our main recruitment event: 10 weeks long foundation course that will cover the basics of Johannes Lichtenauer’s German Fencing system.

This 10 weeks long HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) Course based on teachings of Johannes Liechtenauer, XIV Century Fencing Master sets up a framework for system of medieval combat known as Kunst des Fechtens (The Art of Fencing) taught in the Holy Roman Empire during the Late Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern periods.

Please note: this introductory fencing course is considered to be a minimum required standard for free fencing (sparring) and as such is obligatory for all new members who want to move onto the Scholar rank and start participating in club activities!

Course will include the following:

– Basic footwork training,

– Basic stances and guards,

– Cuts and thrusts – body mechanics,

– Functional attack & defense skills,

– 5 Master Cuts (Meisterhäue)

– Grappling and Throwing techniques

– Halfswording (Halbschwert)

Course will finish with an exam and everyone who passes will be awarded with the Cork Blademasters’ Scholar Certificate.
