Historical Fencing Course: German Longsword
On Sunday 27th of September 2015, we’ll start with our 10 weeks long course that will cover the basics of Johannes Lichtenauer’s German Fencing system.
Location: Little Island Sport Complex, 22, 44 Eastgate Drive, Little Island, Co. Cork (Coordinates: 51.900495,-8.368074)
Cost: 100 euro for the 10 weeks course
Time: 8:30PM-10:30PM every Sunday starting on 27th Sept 2015 (excluding 11/10/2015 & 01/11/2015)

German Fencing system sets up a framework on which all medieval weapon techniques are based, this course will cover longsword techniques in particular but it’ll set up a solid foundations for other weapons as well (knives/daggers, short/long swords, polearm weapons, unarmed combat)
Please note: this basic fencing course is considered to be a minimum required standard and as such is obligatory for all Novice rank (lvl 1) members who want to move onto the Scholar rank!
Course will include the following:
– Basic footwork training,
– Basic stances and guards,
– Cuts and thrusts – body mechanics,
– Functional attack & defense skills,
– 5 Master Cuts (Meisterhäue)
– Bind & wind techniques (Winden)
– Halfswording (Halbschwert)
– Grappling and Throwing techniques
Course will end up in an exam and everyone who passes will be awarded with the Cork Blademasters’ Scholar Certificate.
This will entitle to a discount on membership fees and full access to Cork Blademasters equipment as well as the rights to represent the School on official tournaments.
