Cork Blademasters will be hosting one of our regular HEMA Ireland Training sessions in our Little Island Venue in Cork on the Sat 28th of July 2018 from 11 till 6PM.

This Training Meetup is a part of initiative by HEMA Ireland to meet members from other groups and train/spar/socialize together on a regular basis. The initiative is designed to be low cost so all instructors will teach for free and the entry fee covers only hall rental so it’s 10 e per person only!

This is open to everyone and new people are free to come and watch or participate in the classes. If you want to participate in the sparring however you need to meet our sparring equipment requirements:

11:00-11:30 Registration

11:30-13:30 Training sessions:

  • Neil Byrne: “An introduction to the I.33 system through it’s first play: Falling under the sword” (Sword & Buckler)

Introductory sword and buckler class based on I.33 treatise. Equipment requirements: light gloves, mask, sword & buckler (we will provide 10 sets available to use, please let us know if you want to reserve one!)

  • Paul Reck: “Meyer’s Art of Combat with Longsword & Dussack” (Longsword and Dussack)

In this workshop we will examine The Art of Combat according to Joachim Meyer and look at how his system is fully integrated to be complementary to multiple weapons. We will examine devices taken from both the Longsword and Dussack section of Meyer’s opus and cross-reference them with both weapons, with emphasis on the common body mechanics requires to make best use of both weapons effectively. For this workshop you will require a mask, light gloves, a Longsword and a Dussack, or single handed sword, at minimum.
